Growing tech firm moves some   staff downtown

Sensor Electronics   Technology Inc. has moved 11 workers into a 3,800-square-foot suite of   offices at Main and Lady streets in Columbia. The company manufactures   ultraviolet light-emitting diode products used for a range of applications   including drug development, environmental monitors, military and space   exploration.

Transcon helps companies learn   the export ropes

Transcon Trading Co.   recently received the Export Achievement Certification from the U.S.   Commercial Service, the trade promotion arm of the U.S. Department of   Commerce. The Columbia-based firm provides a number of services for clients,   including assisting with exports and building distribution networks in global   markets.

Senate fails to take up angel   investor bill

The Bill Wylie   Entrepreneurship Act, a bill that aimed to boost angel investor activity for   startup companies in S.C., will be re-introduced next year, supporters said.   The bill would have provided a 35% tax credit to qualified angel investors   who invest in startups.

Publication awards Gold Shovel to   S.C.

Area Development   magazine recognized the state for significant job creation in 2011 through   innovative economic development policies and actions that attracted new employers,   investments in expanded facilities and jobs. Other states receiving the Gold   Shovel award included Texas, Tennessee and Utah.

New technology used to clean   Savannah River Site

Savannah River Nuclear   Solutions completed a multi-year project resulting in the removal of more   than 33,000 gallons of non-radioactive chemical solvents from beneath the   Savannah River Site’s M Area, preventing the pollutants from entering the   local water table.
