SCE&G support bolsters   NuScale’s bid for DOE grant

NuScale Power hopes to   capitalize on ties with SCE&G as it pursues federal money to build the   first-ever small reactor unit at Savannah River Site, one of the company’s   executives said. The Department of Energy is expected to award up to $452   million for SMR projects.

SCE&G to issue $250 million   bond offering

The Cayce-based utility   said proceeds from the bond sale will be used to repay short-term debt and   finance capital expenditures, including two new reactor units at V.C. Summer   Nuclear Station. It is anticipated that the bonds will be issued on Friday.

CETI to host entrepreneurial   workshop

The Midlands Center for   Entrepreneurial and Technological Innovation will hold a how-to session for   entrepreneurs considering starting companies on July 18 in Columbia. The   event will feature Columbia entrepreneurs Natalie Brown and Philippe Herndon.

Army Corps confirms new timeline   for deepening study

The study to deepen   Charleston Harbor will take a total of five years or less, the Army Corps of   Engineers said, and the study will cost $5 million less than the estimated   $20 million when it began in June.

S.C. still ranks low for best   places to do business

While South Carolina   jumped five spots in the annual ranking from CNBC’s market analysis with the   help from national business groups, the state still falls well below most   other places in 10 categories.
