A&K Textiles to open new facility in Barnwell CountyThe Egypt-based safety clothing manufacturer said today it plans to establish new operations in Barnwell County. The company’s $150,000 investment is expected to create 120 new jobs. Hiring for the new positions will begin in March. World Beer Festival returns to ColumbiaThe World Beer Festival is returning to Columbia for the fourth consecutive year on Jan. 28 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Brokaw to deliver speech at USC commencementTom Brokaw, longtime NBC journalist and best-selling author, will receive an honorary doctorate and deliver the graduation address at the University of South Carolina’s winter commencement on Dec. 12. Thomas L. Stepp, who is retiring as the secretary of USC’s Board of Trustees, will also be awarded an honorary doctorate. CertusBank parent names Teegen to boardHildy Teegen has been named to the board of Blue Ridge Holdings Inc., the parent company of Greenville-based CertusBank. Teegan currently serves as the dean of the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. |

Hong Kong economic development topic of MITA eventAnita Chan, director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York, will be in Columbia on Dec. 7 to speak to the Midlands International Trade Association about Hong Kong as a key city in the global business and financial markets.
