Duke Energy creating endowment at USC

The utility company’s foundation is giving $500,000 for the university to establish the Duke Scholars and Fellows Endowment in the College of Engineering and Computing. It also will enable researchers from the college and Duke Energy to work together on nonproprietary joint energy projects.

Columbia office vacancy rate drops

Although year-to-date absorption for the total market remains negative, positive absorption during the third quarter further substantiates previous claims that the Columbia office market is on the road to recovery, according to a report by Colliers International.

USC names finalists for human resources vice president

Four candidates have been selected as finalists for the University of South Carolina’s vice president of human resources. The finalists will visit the Columbia campus in the next several weeks to meet with university leaders.

Press Ganey, a firm that works with health care companies to improve performance, awarded several hospitals in the Columbia area and statewide for excellence in the quality of care they provide their patients and the work environment they provide their employees.

S.C. Philharmonic trying to raise $1.5M

The ensemble’s goal is to use funds raised during the campaign to bolster its existing endowment and to fund strategic initiatives identified through a two-year strategic planning process.
