Progress Energy to close S.C.   coal-fired plant

The Duke Energy   subsidiary will retire the utility’s only coal-fired unit in South Carolina   and accelerate closure of a N.C. coal-fired power plant. The move marks a   further reduction of coal-burning emissions in the state as utilities switch   to cleaner fuel sources.

First Community Corp. sells $15M   of new stock

GE to ship damaged 787 engine to   service facility

GE Aviation will examine   the engine involved in Saturday’s malfunction that occurred during grounds   tests performed by the second Lowcountry-built 787 Dreamliner. Officials do   not have any indication that the malfunction is a fleet issue.

Domtar posts 9% gain in Q2   earnings

Domtar Corp., which   manufactures, markets and distributes a wide variety of fiber-based products,   posted earnings of $59 million for the second quarter. It also said it is   completing conversion of its Marlboro County paper mill to lightweight   specialty and packaging grades.

 

 

         
   

   

Michelin recalls BFGoodrich,   Uniroyal tires

S.C.-based Michelin North   America said 841,000 BFGoodrich and Uniroyal tires made for commercial light   trucks and full-sized heavy duty vans have been recalled. The tread on the   affected tires can separate, causing rapid air loss, the company said.
