Lexington Medical affiliates with Duke for cancer care

The Duke Oncology Network will work on a consulting basis to provide Lexington Medical Center physicians with mentors at Duke and enhance policies and procedures. The affiliation will also allow Lexington Medical Center to increase patient access to clinical trials.

M Gourmet Group buys Lady Street property

The operator of a chain of restaurants in the Columbia area, including Miyos on Main Street, recently purchased property at 530 Lady St. in downtown Columbia. The company plans to use the 6,000 square feet of space as a corporate office and a new M Grille restaurant.

 


Sonoco CorrFlex's N.C. plant diverts 95% of waste

In September 2011, employees at Sonoco CorrFlex's Rural Hall fulfillment facility formed Team Green, focused on achieving landfill-free status in two years. One of the challenges was staying on top of the flux of materials and determining the best outlet for each.

Cox named director of USC’s Walker Institute

Robert Henry Cox, a scholar on European politics, will lead the Walker Institute of International and Area Studies at the University of South Carolina. Cox succeeds Gordon B. Smith, who has directed the Walker Institute for the past eight years.

 

 


Boeing S.C. runs engines on first 787

Boeing S.C. started the engines on its first 787 this week, passing another milestone on its way to delivering the plane to Air India. The preparations are going as planned, said a Boeing Co. spokesperson, and the company is still shooting for delivery in mid-2012.

Upstate angel investors create new funds

The Upstate Carolina Angel Network created a new fund called UCAN Titanium Investment LLC and has already raised $425,250. It’s one of two funds the angel investment group has created this year, according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

 

United Way gives Mullins service award

Ed Mullins of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP received the United Way of the Midlands’ highest award for long-term service to the organization and community. The 2011 Alyce Kemp DeWitt award recognizes a volunteer whose creativity and passion have made an impact on the nonprofit organization.
