Hilton to lead startup center for Incubator, Innovista

Greg Hilton has been named executive director of the Midlands Center for Entrepreneurial and Technological Innovation, a collaboration between the USC/Columbia Technology Incubator and the University of South Carolina’s Innovista research campus.

S.C. general obligation bonds earn AAA rating

Fitch Ratings assigned an AAA rating to more than $273 million State of South Carolina general obligation bonds. The recently rated bonds include state capital improvement series, institutional series bonds for various colleges, economic development series bonds and transportation infrastructure series bonds.

American Timberlands acquires 12K acres of forestland

The South Carolina-based firm announced the purchase of three tracts in Edgefield, Jasper and Kershaw counties. The purchase was made on behalf of American Timberlands Fund II LP, which plans to invest as much as $100 million in forestland in S.C. and adjoining states.

GSSM to offer high schools new engineering program

IN PRINT: The Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics is developing a program to extend college-level engineering courses to high school students statewide, beginning in the 10th grade.

HUD awards $700,000 for new housing projects

The United Way of the Midlands and the Midlands Area Consortium for the Homeless will receive the funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funds mean new units of transitional and permanent housing for the homeless.
