Local firm helps avert further disaster at Fukushima

State military task force sets first meeting of year

The panel, representing South Carolina’s military communities, is likely to play a critical role because the Department of Defense has suggested closing more bases to save money. The meeting will be held Tuesday at the Brown Building in Columbia.

DIT to store classified documents at Lugoff site

The 77,000-square-foot structure in Kershaw County Industrial Park will be used by Diversified Information Technologies as a secured storage facility for documents. The company plans to employ up to 25 people over the next five years, investing $3 million to $5 million.

SCE&G ranks 2nd in customer satisfaction survey

The Cayce-based utility finished second in the J.D. Power and Associates survey, behind Alabama Power. Two other power companies serving S.C., Duke Energy and Progress Energy, also finished among the top five in the utility-focused survey that rated customer satisfaction among business clients.

NAI Avant reports improvements in real estate market

The commercial real estate market in the Columbia metro area showed steady improvement during 2011 as vacancy rates for office, retail and industrial space dropped, according to NAI Avant’s commercial real estate report. Positive labor reports contributed to the performance of the commercial real estate market.
