Clyburn announces rural development grants

Three projects serving a large portion of the rural counties in the 6th Congressional District have been awarded loans or grants totaling more than $23 million through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Community Facilities Program.

Magazine gives S.C. 2011 Gold Shovel honor

Area Development magazine, a national economic development publication, has given South Carolina its 2011 Gold Shovel honor for the state’s economic development efforts last year. In addition, the state also received the magazine’s Project of the Year award for the First Quality Tissue project in Anderson County.

S.C. BlueCross promotes new leader of National Alliance

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina promoted Raad Joseph to head its National Alliance division, a business process outsource unit that serves other Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies.

Federal grand jury issues business-related indictments

A federal grand jury in Columbia returned indictments in several business-related cases, including the case of a Columbia ring charged with distributing more than $34,000 worth of counterfeit checks.

New members join NBSC board

The Columbia-based bank announced the addition of Sara B. Fisher, Daniel P. Schaaf and Joe E. Taylor Jr. to the board of directors.

Small and disadvantaged businesses in the Columbia area will be better-positioned to compete for large government contracts as the result of an expansion of the Department of Transportation’s bonding education program.

Trident Technical College is hiring an occupational therapy assistant and academic program director in Charleston. The job requires a master’s degree in a related field plus certification as an occupational therapist or occupational therapist assistant, with S.C. licensure or the ability to obtain it.
