Spec building helps Orangeburg land GKN

The Dec. 12 print edition of the Columbia Regional Business Report looks into how the availability of the Miller Valentine spec building played a pivotal role in GKN Aerospace’s plan to invest $38 million in Orangeburg and create 278 jobs over the next six years.

Orangeburg receives infrastructure grant

Rep. Jim Clyburn announced Monday the award of a $12.1 million federal Department of Transportation TIGER grant, which will be used to create a southbound access ramp from Highway 301 to Interstate 95. The grant adds to $10.3 million previously secured by Clyburn.

 

Clemson opens biotech lab at GHS

The university’s latest partnership with Greenville Hospital System will help manufacturers improve existing products and develop new medical technologies, tools and devices to improve the health care of patients. The lab opened last week at the GHS Patewood campus.

Economists predict modest improvements in 2012

SunTrust Bank and Wells Fargo hosted economic outlook events recently and predicted modest gains in the economy over the next year. The two banks differed in economic focus, with Wells Fargo taking a more global approach.

 

Arnold Cos. hires new property manager

The Columbia-based commercial property management company has named Shelly W. Little as its new property manager. Little, who has more than 12 years of experience, will manage the company’s commercial properties in the Southeast.

Job of the Week

A full-time position for a plastic injection molding engineer is open. The position requires competencies in molding, tooling, quality inspection, production scheduling and supervision. Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience in manufacturing. A bachelor’s degree in plastics engineering, mechanical engineering or a similar four-year degree is preferred.
