AGY Holding net loss widens in Q1

The Aiken-based producer of fiberglass yarns and high-strength fiberglass reinforcements reported a net loss of $8.4 million in the first quarter, compared to $7.1 million a year earlier. Sales rose 4.9% to $47.1 million in the first quarter.

State epidemiologist to lead HIV/AIDS program

Dr. James Gibson has been selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to share leadership of an HIV/AIDS treatment and care program in Tanzania. Gibson is the state epidemiologist at the Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Asphalt rubber recycling conference set for Columbia

On May 23, representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Highway Administration, Department of Health and Environmental Control and Asphalt Rubber Technology Service will speak in Columbia on proven practices to incorporate recycled materials into infrastructure applications.

 

 

Council expected to pass Showa Denko agreement

Dorchester County Council will be voting on the third and final reading of a payments-in-lieu-of-property-tax agreement for a $200 million expansion by Showa Denko Carbon Inc. Showa Denko manufactures synthetic graphite for industrial applications.
