U.S. sales of BMW SAVs up 24.9% in April

The auto maker reported U.S. sales of the X3, X5 and X6 — all manufactured in South Carolina — reached 6,445 vehicles in April. The X5 was one of BMW’s top sellers for the month, registering a 50.9% increase to 3,561 units compared with 2,360 in April 2011.

Blythewood to open visitors center

The Blythewood Visitors Center will open its doors for business with a grand opening weekend May 10-12. The center will serve as the primary resource of historical and general information for those visiting or wishing to visit Blythewood and the surrounding area.

The Columbia-based provider of health information technology services said the Maturity Level 3 rating from a Department of Defense-funded institute is important because it represents best practices in the competition for government contracts.

Shipping service to connect Charleston, northeast Asia

The S.C. State Ports Authority recently announced a new weekly shipping service that will be run by CKYH, an ocean carrier alliance. The carriers will send nine ships for the service, adding 52 ship calls each year at the North Charleston Terminal.

 

 


Carolina Canners to expand in Chesterfield County

The independent Pepsi bottler and production cooperative said it plans to expand its Cheraw facility. The $20.8 million investment is expected to generate at least 10 jobs. The company is adding machinery and equipment to its facility along U.S. Highway 1.

Aerospace sector faces supply chain challenges

The aerospace industry continues to grow in South Carolina but still faces major shortages in the supply chain and labor force, according to speakers during an aerospace forum Tuesday in Greenville.
