Victor Mendez, administrator of the Federal Highway Administration, will speak at the March 23 summit at Benedict College in Columbia. The event will focus on disseminating safety data, business opportunities and workforce development information.

S.C. house considers tax credit for hiring jobless vets

Out-of-work veterans deserve a hand up, according to Rep. Bakari Sellers, D-Denmark. That’s one of the reasons why he’s sponsoring a bill that would allow South Carolina employers to claim a $100 tax credit for each unemployed veteran they hire.

 

Midlands Tech gets $5M job training grant

The program will provide IT training for unemployed veterans, minorities, women and others through a technical skills program that includes on-the-job training. Midlands Technical College is one of 43 awardees in the country to receive a grant.

Five Points business sold, renamed

Dr. Rocco's Bar has been sold by Mark's Squared LLC to Conspicuous Consumption, headed by Bradley Morgan. Morgan, 22, is renaming the business to Breakers Bar and Grill.

GSE Lining Technology expands in Williamsburg County

The manufacturer of geosynthetic lining products is expanding its current operations in Williamsburg County. The $5 million investment is expected to generate 24 new jobs.
