Wood to power Savannah River operations

A biomass plant will use wood chips and shredded automobile tires to supply electricity to the Savannah River Site. The plant, a project of Ameresco Inc., will initially supply about 10 megawatts of electricity to SRS, and will boost output to 20 megawatts when fully operational.

Grubb & Ellis corporate files for Chapter 11

The national firm does not have any company-owned locations in South Carolina. Three independently-owned affiliates with branding agreements in S.C. aren’t expected to see any difference aside from a possible name change, depending on the outcome of the case.

Providence Family Medicine Lexington opens

Doctors Wayne Black and Hance Oliver will lead the new practice, treating patients from pediatric to geriatric. Providence Family Medicine Lexington opened Monday at 2351 Augusta Highway.

Southern Paint to open Chesterfield County facility

Southern Paint and Powder Coating Inc. will set up its operation in the former Eagle Springs Water Co. facility in Pageland. The $845,000 investment is expected to generate 13 new jobs.

SCRA garners $6M in private donations for SC Launch

SCRA received $6 million in private donations from more than 248 individuals and companies for its 2012 Industry Partnership Fund. SCRA uses the funding to spur entrepreneurial growth and support high-tech companies through SC Launch.

Colonial Life donates $700K to S.C. charities

The contributions included donations to organizations selected by the the Columbia-based company and matching gifts of employee contributions. The United Way of the Midlands topped the list of Colonial Life benefactors, receiving more than $430,000.
