Capitol Restaurant building to get facelift

The iconic Main Street building, owned by First Citizens Bank, was approved to receive $40,000 in grants for renovations. The project is part of a $430,000 grant program by the city of Columbia to improve building facades within targeted redevelopment areas.

Mayor to host discussion on Columbia’s rivers

Mayor Steve Benjamin will host a panel discussion tonight at the Richland County Public Library to consider the future of Columbia's rivers. The panel is part of the One Book, One Columbia initiative, which invites Columbia residents to read the same book at the same time and to discuss it with friends and colleagues.

Columbia home sales soar 16% in January

The year has gotten off to a good start with home sales up about 4% across the state in January, according to the group S.C. Realtors. Overall, the housing market seems to be improving as the unemployment rate drops and the economy grows.

Electric vehicle conference set for Greenville

State commerce getting more requests, chief says

Advance America sold to Mexican company

The 225 employees and executives of Advance America’s Spartanburg headquarters will remain following its sale to Grupo Elektra of Mexico City. Grupo Elektra plans to acquire the payday lender in a stock deal valued at around $780 million.
