State's online job postings up 1% in December

Approximately 500 more positions were listed online in December than November, according to data released Wednesday by The Conference Board of Help Wanted Online. In a year-to-year comparison, the number of job openings rose 10.3%.

Former congressman joins Nelson Mullins

Gresham Barrett will serve as a senior policy advisor for Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP's government relations group in the firm’s Washington, D.C. and Greenville offices. Barrett previously served in the U.S. House, representing South Carolina's 3rd District.

Carolinas AGC names 2012 board

The vice chair of the Carolinas Associated General Contractors building division is Paul Mashburn, of Mashburn Construction Co. Inc. in Columbia. Board directors from the Columbia area include Allen Amsler, of McCrory Construction Co.; Bill Edmonds, of M.B. Kahn Construction Co. Inc.; and Sidney Heyward, of W.B. Guimarin & Co.

Tencarva Machinery Co. acquires Georgia companies

The Greensboro, N.C.-based industrial machinery distribution company has acquired GPM Industries Inc. and GPM Environmental Inc. of Georgia. Tencarva has a facility in Columbia, as well as in Greenville and North Charleston.

Miller-Valentine completes VBA office expansion

The expansion to the Veterans Benefits Administration Regional Office Building in Columbia included additional office space, a call center, visitor parking and other site improvements. The three-story building addition was completed months ahead of schedule.

MUSC Physicians is seeking temporary trainers to teach physicians, clinical and non-clinical staff how to use Epic, an Electronic Medical Records system. A five-week training course is provided.
