Mungo closes deal for new community in West Columbia

The Brookland Mills neighborhood will be built on Hook Road near U.S. 378 and Interstate 26. Despite the struggling economy, the 57-year-old Columbia homebuilder says it has found that homes priced in the mid-$100,000s are strong sellers.

Budget & Control Board approves $63M in construction

The state executive board gave the OK to new projects at state agencies and universities, including $15 million to upfit three floors of the University of South Carolina’s Discovery I research building on the Innovista research campus.

State employees' health plan premiums to go up 4.5%

The state Budget and Control Board voted today to split the cost of anticipated claims costs evenly between the state and its workers. The increase will go into effect Jan. 1.

NAI Avant brokers sale of former car, RV dealership site

The 4.27-acre site at 4650 Fernandina Road sold for $1.45 million. The property formerly was the site of Outdoor RV and Marine World, which closed more than a year ago. Before that, it housed Choice Auto. Plans for the site were not disclosed. Ben Kelly and Patrick Chambers of NAI Avant commercial real estate brokered the transaction.

BlueCross launches short-term individual insurance

Preferred Personal Care plans, which will be administered by TCC of South Carolina, are designed for people who are temporarily without insurance coverage. They are available for 30 to 120 days at various deductibles and premiums.
