Amazon opens distribution center in Cayce

The online retailer says about 1,000 people are on the job at the facility working to fulfill orders in time for the holidays. Products will be flowing in and out of the center by rail, truck and air, a spokesman said.

Shaw AFB opens exchange, builds housing

The $20 million shopping center will serve 15,000 service members, retirees and families living in the Sumter area. Meanwhile, some 630 new homes will be built in the $270 million housing project.

Chapin man sentenced on bank fraud conviction

Kenneth Paul Holmes, 48, of Chapin, was sentenced to five months in prison and ordered to pay $2.4 million in restitution following his guilty plea for conspiracy to commit bank fraud, U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said.

Palmetto Health's Festival of Trees starts Saturday

Palmetto Health Foundation kicks off its 22nd Festival of Trees Saturday at Village at Sandhill on Two Notch and Clemson roads in northeast Columbia. Decorated trees, wreaths and tabletop trees will be up for bid during a weekend-long silent auction to benefit Palmetto Health Children's Hospital.

Streit USA Armoring to expand in Charleston County

The maker of armored vehicles said it plans to expand operations in Charleston County, invest $5.8 million and generate more than 50 new jobs over the next three years. The move will more than double its manufacturing space to 75,000 square feet.
