Sparc to add 310 jobs in Berkeley County

S.C. jobless rate hits 8.3%, lowest mark in year
South Carolina added 33,000 jobs through November, the state Department for Employment and Workforce reported today. The low monthly jobless rate of 8.3% was fueled, in part, by increased hiring for the holidays in retail trade, the agency said.
Midlands restaurants agree to pay $390K in back wages
Investigators of the U.S. Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division found systemic wage violations at three San Jose Mexican restaurants. The federal agency said it is cracking down on the restaurant business in South Carolina because of widespread noncompliance with federal wage laws.
3 commercial properties change hands in Columbia area
A 1.78-acre portion of the former Stivers Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Columbia was among the properties recently sold in the Midlands. Enterprise Leasing Co. purchased the land for around $1.27 million.
Griffin joins W.O. Blackstone as executive VP
Jeffrey E. Griffin will be executive vice president for marketing and strategic planning, said Lewis M. Caswell, chairman and CEO of the Columbia-based mechanical contracting firm. Griffin most recently worked on business development at Mashburn Construction.
