McCall Farms to expand in Florence County

McCall Farms, a producer of Southern canned and frozen vegetables, said the $10.6 million expansion of its existing operations in Florence County is expected to generate 80 new jobs over the next three years. The company’s operations currently employ nearly 850 people.

Seasonal shifts cause S.C. jobless rate to hit 9.4%

With 22,000 jobs added in the past year, the state’s overall jobless rate is more than a percentage point below the June 2011 mark of 10.5%, the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce reported today. However, the rate is up compared to the 9.1% reported in May.

Innovista to launch new startup center

The University of South Carolina received a $645,000, five-year federal grant to launch a center to help startups with new product development. The Innovista Center for Product Realization, or ICPR, will be an interdisciplinary, collaborative and holistic approach to helping technology-based startups.

Miller-Valentine exec to chair local ABC committee

Kurt Eyring, vice president and partner of Miller-Valentine Group, has been named chairman of the Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas, Columbia Council. The organization works to promote and improve the image of construction and address industry issues.

McIntyre joins Midlands airport commission

Richard McIntyre, the Lexington market president for First Reliance Bank, is the newest delegate to the Richland-Lexington Airport Commission. The commission serves as the governing body of the Richland-Lexington Airport District.
