Passenger traffic at airport slips   in May, cargo up

Total passenger traffic   at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport dropped 1.5% in May, the first decline   after nine consecutive months of year-over-year increases. Meanwhile, the   airport reported freight shipments for May were up nearly 14%.

Britax Child Safety to locate HQ   in South Carolina

The maker of car seats,   strollers, baby carriers and accessories said its investment of more than $26   million is expected to bring 243 new jobs. The York County facility is   expected to begin operations during the second half of 2013, Britax said.

 

 

         
   

   


  Legislature OKs bill denying   benefits to fired workers

The legislation changes   the word “cause” to “misconduct,” and says an applicant for unemployment   benefits would not be eligible for 20 weeks, in addition to the waiting   period. The measure brings the state law in line with federal regulations.

Leading insurance executive joins   EagleEye’s board

Mary Hennessy, a 30-year   veteran of the property and casualty insurance industry, has been named vice   chair of the Columbia-based insurance technology firm. She is a former CEO of   GMAC Personal Lines and served as president and CEO of Overseas Partners.

 

 

S.C. foreclosure starts increase   in May

 

         
   

   

South Carolina recorded   one of the largest state increases in foreclosure starts from 2011 with an   increase of 43%. Nationally, foreclosure activity exceeded 200,000 properties   for the first time in three months and foreclosure starts increased for the   first time since January 2010, according to figures released by RealtyTrac.
