Permit delay holds up Haile Gold Mine project

The Army Corps of Engineers has told Romarco Minerals that a final decision about a 404 Wetlands permit won’t be made until August 2013 — nearly a year after Romarco had expected to start hiring workers to develop the site. The company said it is still pushing ahead with advance detailed design and engineering for the project.

Intellectual property conference planned in June

The event, to be held June 14-15 in Charleston, will feature presenters from USC’s Darla Moore School of Business, the Bureau of Economic Analysis and Ford Global Technologies. The speakers will discuss how intellectual property can impact corporate performance.

 

 


Lightning lab to advance USC aviation research

By firing simulated bolts at the kinds of composite materials that go into airplanes, engineers in the Lightning Response Laboratory will refine understanding of how modern aircraft and other structures are affected by electrical storms. The lab is to be completed this summer.

NRC gives V.C. Summer clean bill of health

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said their top concern is that the two new reactor units being built at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station meet rigorous safety standards. Three resident NRC inspectors are assigned to the construction project in Fairfield County.

City, CMRTA to close Memorial Day

Garbage and recyclable collection will remain on its regular schedule, city officials said. City of Columbia offices and the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority will reopen on Tuesday.
