SCBT chief: Attractive acquisition targets drying up

SCBT Financial has acquired four banking companies since January 2010, but the pace may be slowing down as the parent of South Carolina Bank & Trust finds few troubled banks worth buying. Since 2009, 405 banks have failed, according to federal banking statistics.

KeenanSuggs to represent Charleston physicians group

Charleston-based Uniphy, which represents 700 independent Lowcountry physicians, said it picked KeenanSuggs to manage its medical malpractice insurance program based on the firm’s experience and knowledge of risk management.

 

Aflac ranks No. 214 on Forbes’ Global 2000 list

The Georgia-based insurance company, which employs 450 in Columbia, reported $22.2 billion in revenues for 2011. In Japan, Aflac is the No. 1 life insurance company in terms of individual policies in force. Aflac also ranks No. 125 on the Fortune 500 list of largest companies in the United States.

S.C. BlueCross sees results from new care model

Patients of Mackey Family Practice in Lancaster and Indian Land improved their health and had fewer hospital admissions and emergency room visits during the first year of the new patient-centered medical home, the health insurance company said.

 

Sovereign Homes to begin construction at Lake Carolina

 

The master-planned community northeast of Columbia said Sovereign Homes purchased several home sites in Lake Carolina’s Peninsula neighborhood and will begin construction on six new homes. The homes are expected to start in the mid-$300,000 price range.

First Federal gets Upstate footprint

Charleston’s oldest and largest bank entered the Upstate market with the acquisition of three Greenville branches of First Savers Bank, which was closed by federal regulators Friday.

Benedict College president to chair UNCF board

David H. Swinton was recently elected chair of the Member Presidents of the United Negro College Fund, the nation’s largest
minority education organization, at the annual UNCF board meeting.
