NRC to vote Friday on new reactor units at V.C. Summer

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a vote on the $9.8 billion project for Friday afternoon. The commission’s staff has recommended approval of a construction and operation license sought by South Carolina Electric & Gas and Santee Cooper, and the commission is expected to ratify that recommendation.

Innovative Composites starts operations in Orangeburg

The Toronto-based company produces composite products targeting the prefabricated modular housing and transportation markets. The Orangeburg facility is designed to produce up to 5 million square feet of composite modular homes annually.

Blythewood woman pleads guilty to stealing $672,000

Robin Newman Maner, 43, pleaded guilty to stealing $672,433.65 from her employer, a group of medical doctors in Columbia, U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said Friday. Maner was convicted of federal charges of wire fraud and faces up to 30 years in prison.

U-Haul ranks Columbia among top 50 destinations

Columbia comes up No. 42 on U-Haul International’s list of top destinations during 2011. The state capital was the only S.C. city to make U-Haul’s list. Among Columbia’s neighboring metro areas, Atlanta ranked No. 7 and Charlotte ranked No. 26.
