Software conference brings IT icons to Columbia

Scott McNealy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems, will give a keynote address on March 29 at the Palmetto Open Source Software Conference in Columbia. The two-day conference will discuss the state of open source software technology in today’s marketplace.

TCi awarded patent for online management tool

Michelin’s TCi Tire Centers LLC is offering customers Track My Tread, an electronic system that provides cradle-to-grave tracking solution for tires. The system relies on a bar code applique embedded in the sidewall that survives the retreading process, the company said.

The TDL Council’s website will feature highlights on participating transportation, distribution and logistics organizations in the newly formed council. The TDL Council is a cluster under the umbrella of New Carolina: South Carolina’s Council on Competitiveness.

Cox Industries to buy Ga. company’s sales operations

The Orangeburg company provides pressure-treated lumber for commercial customers and dealers. The company said the acquisition of Atlantic Wood Industries’ treatment plants and sales operations would help Cox expand its East Coast footprint.

 

Main & Gervais office tower earns Energy Star status

The 16-story office building developed and managed by Holder Properties is located in downtown Columbia. The Energy Star award signifies that the building performs in the top 25% for energy efficiency compared to similar facilities nationwide.
