Urban Outfitters to open in the Vista
The Philadelphia-based retailer, which sells apparel and furnishings aimed at the tastes of 18- to 30-year-olds, plans to open its first Columbia outlet this July in the heart of the Vista.
Graham: Two engines of S.C. economy now connected
Local, state and federal officials broke ground on the S.C. Inland Port today, a development that will link the Upstate to docks at the Port of Charleston through an overnight train service. Sen. Lindsey Graham said the inland port will pay "great dividends" for the state.
Debt collectors recover nearly $600M in S.C.
The S.C. Collectors Association said its contribution to the economy is more than recovering overdue bills. In South Carolina, the industry accounts for more than 4,000 jobs and a payroll of $151 million.
Boeing cutting back on contract labor at S.C. plant
The company said the reduction in temporary labor at the Boeing South Carolina plant is part of a larger plan to use fewer contract workers and more direct-hire employees from the local labor pool. A spokeswoman said the company expects overall employment to be flat or slightly down at the end of the year.
State awards $3.8M for rural infrastructure projects
Communities will use the money to fund projects such as improving existing water and wastewater treatment systems to serve customers and prepare for economic development.
