The House Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday elected Rep. W. Brian White of Anderson County as its new chairman to succeed another Anderson County Republican, Rep. Dan Cooper.
The Centers of Economic Excellence, also known as the Endowed Chairs program, is now called SmartState. The program’s chairwoman said the new identity will better reflect the program’s purpose: transforming South Carolina into a “smart state” that can compete for high-paying jobs based on the value of its knowledge and innovation.

The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the SBA South Carolina District Office and the South Carolina Coalition for Small Business and Entrepreneurship will hold the 2011 Salute to Small Business Expo from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
The National Golf Course Owners Association is looking to hire an account manager. The part-time, commission-only position requires aggressive business-to-business phone sales, with daily call quotas and weekly revenue goals. A background in the business is preferred.
