Reactor designers eye Columbia for future factory

Two companies seeking regulatory review and licenses for their small modular reactor designs told Columbia leaders Tuesday that if they build a factory to manufacture the small-scale nuclear power units, Columbia would be at the top of their list for such a facility.

Mast General Store VP says Columbia is ready to grow

When Mast General Store opened on Greenville’s Main Street in 2003, there were 14 vacant storefronts around the store; a short time later, half that space was full. Fred Martin, Mast General VP, said that’s an indication of what Mast could do for downtown Columbia.

 
 
 



State’s jobless rate dips below 10%

South Carolina’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 9.9% in March, dropping below 10% for the first time in two years, the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce reported Tuesday.

National Guard’s role in Greenville County expands

The S.C. National Guard’s presence in Greenville County appears to be growing even larger. A $12.8 million maintenance shop is planned to be built at the S.C. Technology and Aviation Center.

First Citizens hires new chief credit officer

Will Brown has joined the Columbia-based banking company as executive vice president and chief credit officer. Brown will lead the commercial lending department and will be responsible for the bank’s commercial credit, business credit and special assets functions.

 

 

A&D Environmental Services acquires Georgia group

The company, which has S.C. offices in Greenville and Columbia, acquired the Greenleaf Environmental group of companies in Georgia. A&D provides environmental services to the industrial services, waste management, emergency response and transportation sectors.

Trident Technical College in North Charleston is hiring chemical process instructors for six-month, part-time positions. Five years’ field experience in the petrochemical industry is required, including safety, instrumentation, piping, process systems, process troubleshooting and related computer applications.
