Wilcox aims to boost scholarship as new USC law dean

As the incoming dean of the University of South Carolina School of Law, Robert M. Wilcox aims to boost scholarship, and hence the reputation, of legal education on the Columbia campus. As associate dean for academic affairs at the law school, Wilcox already has presided over major changes in the first-year course of studies.

Public service member named to nonprofit’s board

Randy Mitchell, commissioner from the third district of the S.C. Public Service Commission, has been named to fill the state commission seat on the Universal Service Administrative Co.’s board of directors.

 





V.C. Summer Nuclear Station starts refueling outage

S.C. Electric & Gas Co., the principal subsidiary of SCANA Corp., will take Unit 1 offline today to begin a scheduled refueling outage. The outage, which follows an 18-month operating cycle, is the 19th for the station since the plant began commercial operation in 1984.

Graham releases holds, cites progress for port funds

Sen. Lindsey Graham said he is optimistic that the scoping study of Charleston Harbor could be done before the end of the 2011 fiscal year after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the Port of Charleston had the greatest need for funding.
