Fed official sees impact on auto supply chain

South Carolina’s automotive supply chain may be affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan because the disaster-stricken region is a center for production of many kinds of computer chips used in the auto industry, said Charles L. Evans, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

Judge OKs Southern Connector’s reorganization plan

The manager of the Southern Connector toll road filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy in June. The agency was insolvent, losing more than $20 million a year and unable to restructure more than $300 million in debt, including more than $10 million owed to the state DOT.

Study: S.C. could lose 48,000 highway construction jobs

This employment includes the equivalent of 23,915 full-time jobs directly involved in transportation construction and related activities, and 24,091 that are sustained by transportation design and construction industry employee and company spending throughout the state's economy.

McLeese reappointed civilian aide to Army secretary

McLeese was selected by Secretary John M. McHugh to represent South Carolina and will serve as the official advocate for the U.S. Army throughout the state. This is his third term as a civilian aide.

Historical building to welcome Newberry students

The renovation of Oakland Mill into student housing for Newberry College students is nearing completion. The initiative, a collaboration among the college, the town of Newbery, Newberry County and the building’s owner, also is transforming the surrounding Oakland Mill village and the Newberry community.

Trident Technical College is hiring an occupational therapy assistant and academic program director in Charleston. The job requires a master’s degree in a related field plus certification as an occupational therapist or occupational therapist assistant, with S.C. licensure or the ability to obtain it.
