Bank of America Plaza owner in default on $34M loan

The owner of the Bank of America Plaza building on Columbia’s Main Street is more than 30 days in default on a $34 million loan on the building. The 302,843-square-foot, 17-story building has Bank of America as its main tenant, occupying 27% of the space.

South Carolina still far behind in personal income

Growth in per capita income in South Carolina outpaced the national average of 3%, according to data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Still, South Carolina ranks No. 45 with a per capita income nearly 20% below the national average.

Business school to measure success of FastTracSC

 



A study by the College of Charleston’s School of Business will measure the effectiveness of the program that helps entrepreneurs start and grow businesses. The study team will survey 1,200 past participants, track the status of their ventures and determine their contributions to the economy. A final report is expected in July.

SBA honors Columbia businessman

Daniel Dennis, president of the Dennis Corp., an engineering and construction management firm, has been named the S.C. Small Business Person of the Year by the Small Business Administration.

Nuclear lab engineer elected Fellow in society

George Rawls of the Savannah River National Laboratory in Aiken has been elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers at the society’s Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code meeting.
