Fluor, Savannah River Nuclear invest $1.5M in USC

Fluor CEO David Seaton said the gift, granted to the Center of Economic Excellence in the Hydrogen Economy, would help pair private-sector researchers with academic researchers to uncover innovative ways of bringing jobs to the state. Seaton is an S.C. native and University of South Carolina alumnus.

Successful contract challenge keeps jobs at BlueCross

According to BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, the five-year, $23.5 billion contract that Humana Military Healthcare Services was awarded by Tricare Management Activity means 925 jobs will be retained at BlueCross subsidiary PGBA LLC.

Councilwoman appointed to National League of Cities

Tameika Isaac Devine, a city councilwoman at-large for Columbia, has been appointed to the National League of Cities’ 2011 Human Development Policy and Advocacy Steering Committee.

Former White House chief of staff to speak to Boy Scouts

Andrew H. Card Jr. is slated to speak next week at the 2011 Friends of Scouting dinner. Card served in both Bush administrations, including as chief of staff for President George W. Bush. Card famously whispered in Bush’s ear while he was reading to school children to let him know about the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The University of South Carolina is hiring a data coordinator for its Development and Alumni Affairs, Advancement Services department. The coordinator will be responsible for data collection, data entry and logging of all gifts received by the university.
