Unemployment drops statewide in January

The statewide jobless rate was 10.5%, with the Charleston, Columbia and Greenville metro areas hovering around 8.5%. Some 3,599 people found jobs in January, according to the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce’s monthly report.

Foreclosures down across South Carolina for February

Foreclosure filings were down across the nation and state for February, according to data from a national foreclosure tracking company. RealtyTrac says that while the numbers will likely not hit the peak of March 2010, the industry is still resetting from problems with processing distressed properties.

Governor’s School aims to boost interest in science

Aiming to generate more interest in the sciences among secondary school students, the S.C. Governor's School for Science and Mathematics launched a grass-roots campaign Wednesday to build awareness, energy and momentum around the study of science, technology, engineering and math.
