Ajax expands York manufacturing plant

Ajax Rolled Ring and Machine said last week it will add 15,000 square feet to its York plant and hire 25 people. The company manufactures machined rings used in bearings for Timken Co., SKF Group, Caterpillar, GE and others.

Bi-Lo to acquire Winn-Dixie for $560M

Mauldin-based Bi-Lo may relocate its corporate headquarters after announcing today its planned acquisition of Winn-Dixie, based in Jacksonville, Fla. The transaction will more than triple Bi-Lo’s store count to 690 in eight states and comes just a year and a half after the company emerged from bankruptcy.

 

 

Applications outpace open slots at USC medical school

The University of South Carolina School of Medicine-Greenville has received more than 800 applications for its first class since it began recruiting students in October. The school only expects to enroll 50 students. It is scheduled to open its doors in July 2012.

Kenworth truck dealerships sold to Kentucky firm

Worldwide Equipment Inc. of Kentucky has bought Cherokee Kenworth’s two heavy-duty truck dealerships in Columbia and Greenville. This is the first venture into South Carolina for the dealership network, which has locations in West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio.

 

SC Realtors revises Columbia market data

SC Realtors reported Monday that its residential sales data contained an error for the Greater Columbia market. Sales rose 12.9% in November — not down by 70% as previously reported, according to statistics revised by the association. Residential closings for Columbia totaled 491 units in November.
