For the first four months of 2012, passenger traffic is up 7% at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport compared with the same period last year. The airport’s executive director attributed the increase to more seats added to the local market by Delta Airlines.
The National Weather Service and S.C. State Ports Authority expect Beryl’s sustained winds to stay below the 40-mph threshold that triggers the ports’ severe weather plans. The storm is expected to pass over the coast of South Carolina by Wednesday morning.

South Carolina received a grade of A+ for the ease of starting a small business, cost of hiring a new employee and friendliness of environmental regulations, according to a recent survey by Thumbtack.com and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
The Bill Wylie Entrepreneurship Act is on the Senate Finance Committee calendar, the last chance before the June 9 adjournment. The measure would provide a 35% tax credit to qualified angel investors who invest in registered startup businesses.

S.C. businessman Joel W. Norwood has been elected chairman of the South Carolina Real Estate Appraisers Board. He was appointed to the board in 2010 by former Gov. Mark Sanford. Norwood is president of Wilkins Norwood Appraisal Associates Inc.
A ban by China on imported South Carolina- and Virginia-grown logs is close to ending now that a small delegation of Chinese authorities visited Virginia and the Carolinas, the S.C. Forestry Commission said.
