Bank of America Plaza to be sold

The Bank of America Plaza, one of the most visible features of Columbia’s Main Street, is in receivership and an agent has been appointed to market the 17-story office tower, the building’s leasing agent said. NAI Avant is reporting to a court-appointed receiver as it continues to market the building for lease.

SCBT completes acquisition of Peoples Bancorp.

The merger, first announced in December, gives South Carolina Bank & Trust eight more full-service offices in the Upstate and vaults the bank to No. 6 in S.C. by deposit market share. SCB&T now operates 78 offices in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

 

Accuride ‘disappointed’ in ITC ruling on Chinese imports

The U.S. International Trade Commission rejected claims by Accuride Corp. and co-petitioner Hayes Lemmerz that Chinese imports of commercial steel wheels were being dumped on the domestic market, creating an unfair price advantage. The ruling reversed a March 2011 preliminary finding that favored Accuride.

Santee Cooper signs letter of intent for nuclear units

Santee Cooper and American Municipal Power Inc. signed a letter of intent that will begin negotiations to allow American Municipal Power to obtain 2-5% of Santee Cooper’s share of nuclear units at V.C. Summer Nuclear Station in Fairfield County.

 

SBA honors Columbia firm for innovation, job creation

Sensor Electronic Technology received the Tibbetts Award Tuesday from the U.S. Small Business Administration during a ceremony at the White House. The awards are presented to companies and individuals who are “beacons of promise and models of excellence in high technology,” according to the SBA.

Team pulling 787 tail fin cross-country

A scaled model of the 787 tail fin has left Washington state and will arrive in North Charleston for Friday’s Dreamliner rollout. A husband and wife are towing the fin with a pickup truck. Eventually, the fin will become part of a permanent display in North Charleston.

 


Nation Ford Chemical to expand in York County

The custom manufacturer of specialty organic chemicals today announced expansion plans for its current operations in York County. The $5.5 million investment is expected to generate 16 new jobs.
