Tronco’s to launch cafeteria in Richland Mall

The locally-owned restaurant and catering business plans to open Sadie’s American Cafeteria at a former cafeteria location in the Richland Mall. About 50 jobs will be created. The restaurant is expected to open in April or May.

Committee to set aside $180M for harbor deepening

The South Carolina House Ways and Means Committee established the Harbor Deepening Reserve Fund, which includes $180 million in non-recurring funds to be used for deepening the state’s harbors, including the Charleston Harbor deepening project.

Columbia seeks to fill planning board vacancy

The planning commission advises City Council on annexations, zoning changes, and approves subdivision plats and large development plans. The term of office is three years with the possibility of one reappointment. Applications are due by March 7.

Clemson study ranks S.C. counties’ likelihood for growth

Comparing South Carolina’s 46 counties for likelihood of long-term growth, Lexington County ranked No. 9 and Richland County ranked No. 11, according to a Clemson University Economic Development study of the state’s economy between 2000 and 2008.

Duke, Progress file new merger plan

The mitigation plan filed with N.C. state regulators is designed to address concerns that the companies’ merger will reduce competition and could lead to higher customer rates. Under the proposal, Duke would construct up to eight transmissions projects that would allow it to import wholesale power into North and South Carolina.
