Online job postings down 1,800 in South Carolina

The number of jobs advertised online in South Carolina fell by 1,800 in January, according to the Conference Board Help Wanted Online. Nationally, the number of online advertised jobs rose 61,300 in January to nearly 4.4 million, the group reported.

Engineers, gas provider to move into Capitol Center

The engineering firm Weston & Sampson and Piedmont Natural Gas have expanded into the Columbia market with new downtown offices in the Capitol Center. Marsha Davis of Colliers International secured the lease for the owners of the office tower.

Boeing finds problems in S.C. manufacturing process

The manufacturing defects on the 787s resulted from an incorrect shimming process. The company said there are no short-term safety concerns and Boeing is making progress on a repair plan.

Leadership Columbia to host class on government

Any graduate of a chamber-based leadership program is eligible to register for the Advanced Political Systems workshop on Feb. 28 in Columbia. Participants will get an opportunity to find out what it’s like to sit on a city or town council.

Survey: Workers prefer personal counseling on benefits

Almost all employees who take part in one-to-one counseling during the annual enrollment period say they have a greater understanding of the benefits employers offer, according to a survey by Columbia-based Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Co.
