Environmental group sues SCE&G over pollutants

The Southern Environmental Law Center has filed a suit on behalf of the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation demanding South Carolina Electric & Gas clean up its coal-ash lagoons near the Wateree River. The power company said it already has taken action and is committed to removing the ash ponds.

Emcor Group acquires Southern Industrial

Southern Industrial Constructors specializes in plant equipment installation and relocation, rigging and machinery moves, and plant maintenance. It has operations in Columbia, as well as locations in Raleigh, Wilmington, and Charlotte, N.C.

Airport commission seeks public input on master plan

The Jan. 23 meeting aims to solicit public comment on the proposed update of the agency’s 20-year master plan. Goals of the plan include defining current and future aviation demand at CAE and identifying the airport’s role in the aviation industry.

Women’s Business Center ready for statewide push

The Charleston-based Center for Women has received a five-year grant to take the Women’s Business Center concept statewide. Initially, the S.C. Women’s Business Center will offer counseling, market research and business planning in the Lowcountry with plans to have a presence in the Upstate by the end of 2012.

2011 S.C. foreclosure rate tracks with national figures

Foreclosure activity on the year was down 34% from 2010. The number of homes in distress nationally hit a 49-month low in December at 205,000 homes. South Carolina’s foreclosure rate hovers near the national numbers for both December and 2011.
