Columbia Real Estate Update 9-23-2011
TODAY'S HEADLINES / SEPT. 23, 2011
South Carolina already is strong in its forest products and nuclear clusters, but Harvard Business School professor Michael Porter said the state needs a new way to think about economic development.
The new 260,000-square-foot building will include a 500-seat auditorium, 25 classrooms, meeting rooms, plus faculty and staff offices. The anticipated completion date for the $91.5 million facility is December 2013. The building will be designed to generate as much energy as it consumes, school officials said.
Personal income growth was a tick higher in South Carolina for the second quarter of 2011 than the national average of 1.1%, according to data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The event will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in Hartsville. Dr. E. Coy Irvin’s presentation, "So You Want be in Health Care," will discuss various opportunities in the medical field. He will base the presentation on his personal career path, providing guidance for students who wish to learn more about the profession.
