Moody’s lowers SCANA’s credit rating

Moody’s Investors Service cited concerns about the large amount of money that will have to be borrowed for the nuclear construction program at the V.C. Summer plant in Fairfield County.

Home sales up 10%; market shows signs of stabilizing

Sales for August were up nearly 10% year-over-year in the Columbia area. Meanwhile, the median price dropped 10% and the average number of days on the market rose 11%.

Survey: S.C. a top state for business

South Carolina is viewed as having one of the best business climates among the 50 states, according to a new survey of U.S. corporate executives. Only Texas and North Carolina fared better. California, New York and Illinois are viewed as the states with the least-favorable business climates.

S.C. construction jobs increase from July to August

Construction jobs in South Carolina grew by 400 in August compared with July, gaining back jobs lost from June, according to the Associated General Contractors of America. Construction jobs are down 300 compared with August 2010.

S.C. farmers getting the flax

Crailar processed flax fiber, which was developed by Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc. of Canada, is regarded as key to building a greener supply chain for the textile industry. The company is locating a processing plant in the Pee Dee and will use flax grown within 100 miles.

TD Bank names new executive at Forest Drive location

The bank promoted H. Malcolm Davis to assistant vice president and manager of its store at 4875 Forest Drive in Columbia.
