Haley signs point-of-sale assessment law

Gov. Nikki Haley and other state lawmakers held a signing ceremony for a bill they said fixes the consequences of a state law that reset the taxable value of a property after it’s sold. The fight over reforming the 2006 tax reform law lasted several years before a compromise plan was worked out in June that allows a 25% exemption of the market value of property being purchased.

Arnold to redo Lake Murray marina, build apartments

Columbia developer Ben Arnold says there is “pent-up demand” for luxury units with upgraded finishes. The complex will include a new marina, commercial area and restaurant.

Deadline to apply for SBA drought loans set

The U.S. Small Business Administration is reminding businesses that Sept. 14 is the filing deadline for federal economic injury disaster loans available in South Carolina because of drought, extreme heat and weather related insect infestations that began on May 1, 2010.

AGY posts widening losses on rising sales in Q2

The Aiken-based maker of fiberglass products said the loss for the quarter ended June 30 was $6.2 million, compared with a loss of $5.9 million a year earlier. Sales in the second quarter rose 1.4% to $50 million from $49.3 a year earlier.
